LIVERPOOL
CULTURE
Ancient Traditions
The
art of gobbing, said to be a tradition dating back over 100 years to the
days of the large manufactories. Factory workers, their mouths tainted
with pollutant byproducts of their jobs, would spit habitually to clear
the poison from their systems. Though the factories and pollutants are
long gone (more or less,) this charming tradition continues, passed on
through the generations. Walk along a street in Liverpool, and you will
see the pavement dotted with gobbets of spittle, (when you're not actually
dodging flem in full flight from passers-by.)
Encouraging
Local Ecology
Spittle
is not the only thing to be found on the streets, a wealth of discarded
litter, junk food and dog excrement helps to maintain the rich and diverse
wildlife population.. well, chiefly gulls and a large rat population.
It would of course be utterly cruel and heartless to deprive the vermin
(and their associated mini ecologys of fleas and bacteria) of their dinner
by putting rubbish in the bin - unthinkable!
Street
Theatre
Stroll
along the streets of Liverpool, and sooner or later you will be treated
to a spot of spontaneous street theatre. Cheeky Scallies never argue in
the privacy of the home when the dispute could be taken outside onto the
pavement for the benefit of complete strangers to view. Arguments are
screeched at maximum volume and can be accompanied by props such as metal
bars to wave dramatically at your fellow actor. No need to depress yourself
with second hand aggro from the likes of miserable soap operas such as
Eastenders, get it free and first hand on the street!
